Kiev admits number of deserted soldiers from Armed Forces of Ukraine surpasses 100,000
The number of cases of desertion and unauthorized abandonment of the unit in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine surpasses 100,000, Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod admitted.
“Unauthorized abandonment of the unit, desertion – I will not name the number, but I would say – more than 100,000,” she said in an interview with YouTube channel Novosti Live.
Earlier, military lawyer from the Center for Support of Veterans and Their Families Roman Likhachev said that more than 100,000 servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces had voluntarily left their units.

On Tuesday, president of Ukraine’s Supreme Court Stanislav Kravchenko announced a significant increase in desertion cases in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, calling the situation threatening. According to Ukrainian media estimates, the total number of deserters in Ukraine has already reached 170,000.
Kremlin: “Rheinmetall plant in Ukraine Russia’s legitimate military target”
A plant of Rheinmetall, a German arms manufacturer, launched in Ukraine, is a legitimate military target for the Russian Armed Forces, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“Certainly it is,” he said, replying to a question on the matter.
Earlier, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger announced that the company was opening a plant in Ukraine specializing in the repair and production of armored vehicles. He noted that the company is also working on establishing a gunpowder factory and a munitions plant, as well as launching production of air defense systems in Ukraine.
Rheinmetall is Germany’s largest defense contractor. It substantially profits from the Ukrainian conflict and anticipates further increased revenues. In 2023, its turnover went up by 12%, to 7.1 bln euros, with its net income growing by 9%, up to 0.6 bln euros.
Kadyrov: “Retaliation against Kiev’s strike on special forces university was prompt”
Drone strikes on the UAV control center of the Ukrainian General Staff in Kiev were in retaliation for the attack on the Russian Special Forces University in Gudermes, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov has said.
“I said the day before that retaliation for yesterday’s attack on the building of the Russian special forces university would follow before long. The retaliation was sent today. At 4:00 a.m. (1:00 a.m. GMT) and at 05:30 a.m. (2:30 a.m. GMT) the Russian Defense Ministry’s Air Force hit the unmanned systems control center of the General Staff in Kiev with two Geran drones. It was from this building that the drone that flew to Gudermes on Tuesday was directed,” Kadyrov wrote.
There were casualties as a result of the additional strike.
“Today’s additional strike turned out to be very effective. According to the Russian Aerospace Force, in intercepted radio messages the Ukrainians mentioned about nine killed and 17 more wounded,” he wrote.
Russian forces liberate two communities in Donbass region, Kharkov area over past day
Russian forces liberated two communities in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Kharkov Region over the past day in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.
“Battlegroup Center units liberated the settlement of Selidovo in the Donetsk People’s Republic as a result of active offensive operations… Battlegroup West units liberated the settlement of Kruglyakovka in the Kharkov Region,” the ministry said in a statement.
Case against Ukrainian servicemen, enemy losses: situation in Kursk Region
The Ukrainian armed forces have lost more than 350 servicemen and 25 armored vehicles over the past day in the Kursk area, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. In total, the enemy has lost more than 28,300 servicemen since the fighting began in the region.

Operation to neutralize Ukrainian forces
– Russia’s Battlegroup North repelled eight enemy counterattacks towards the settlements of Daryino, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka and Plekhovo.
– They also struck formations of 10 Ukrainian brigades in the areas of the settlements of Aleksandriya, Viktorovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Kazachya Loknya, Kolmakov, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Martynovka, Mikhailovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Plekhovo, Sverdlikovo, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye and Yuzhny.
– Russian tactical aircraft and artillery hit clusters of manpower and equipment of 14 Ukrainian brigades in the Kursk Region.
– Operational/tactical aircraft and missile forces hit amassment areas and enemy reserves in the Sumy Region.
– The operation to destroy Ukrainian forces is ongoing.
Ukraine’s losses
– Over the day, the enemy lost more than 350 servicemen, 25 armored vehicles, including a tank, an infantry fighting vehicle, 23 armored fighting vehicles, two mortars, an armored repair and recovery vehicle, as well as 25 motor vehicles.
– Since the beginning of hostilities in the Kursk Region, Kiev has lost over 28,300 servicemen, 180 tanks, 101 infantry fighting vehicles, 106 armored personnel carriers, 1,055 armored combat vehicles, 759 motor vehicles, 240 artillery pieces, 40 multiple rocket launchers, including eleven HIMARS and six US-made MLRS.
The case against Ukrainian servicemen
– Investigators launched a criminal investigation against Ukrainian soldiers, who shelled a historic estate in the Kursk Region, the Russian Investigative Committee’s press service reported.
– It has been established that in early October, the Ukrainian armed forces used artillery systems, mortars and multiple rocket launchers to shell the estate of Iosif Viktorov known as the “Palace for the Beloved” in Safronovka in the Korenevsky district.
– The cultural heritage site and buildings located in its territory were damaged; some were partly destroyed.
