China Stopped WHO International Investigation on SARS-Cov2 origin. Denied Entry to Task Force

After the sensational stop imposed by China amid the controversy last week, the team of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) in charge of investigating the origin of Covid-19 arrived yesterday in China in Wuhan, the outbreak of the epidemic that has transformed in a pandemic. Two members of the investigation team were denied entry to the country after their positivity was recorded via antibody tests done in Singapore. WHO adds that the 13 experts who arrived in Wuhan will begin their work “immediately”, despite the two-week quarantine. China will “strictly” adhere to the anti-Covid-19 prevention requirements: this is how Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian replied to the question about denied entry to two members of the WHO team because they were positive, according to an anticipation of the Wsj, to serological tests in transit in Singapore. “The relevant requirements for epidemic prevention control will be strictly enforced,” Zhao said.

According to British network and Reuters, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was “very disappointed” that China had not yet finalised the permissions for the team’s arrivals «given that two members had already begun their journeys and others were not able to travel at the last minute».

«I have been assured that China is speeding up the internal procedure for the earliest possible deployment» he told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday, explaining that he had been in contact with senior Chinese officials to stress «that the mission is a priority for WHO and the international team».

A FARCE MISSION IN CHINA
