The British lawyer who charged President Vladimir Putin with “war crimes” is now facing charges himself

The Russian Interior Ministry on Friday issued an arrest warrant for Karim Asad Ahmad Khan, the British lawyer currently acting as chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

In March, Khan sought the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, the children’s rights commissioner, for the alleged war crime of “unlawful deportation and transfer” of children from “occupied areas of Ukraine” to Russia.

The ICC had acted on claims by the government in Kiev that Russia’s evacuation of children from civilian areas that were under fire from Ukrainian forces amounted to forcible transfer of population, which was defined as a crime under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Three days after Khan’s announcement, on March 20, the Russian Investigative Committee launched a probe into the prosecutor, as well as three ICC judges who approved his warrant – Tomoko Akane, Rosario Salvatore Aitala and Sergio Gerardo Ugalde Godinez.

The investigation focused on articles 299 and 360 of the Russian criminal code, namely bringing criminal charges against persons known to be innocent, and preparations for an attack on a representative of a foreign state enjoying international protection in order to complicate international relations.

Moscow has dismissed the ICC warrants against Putin and Lvova-Belova as null and void, as Russia is not a party to the Rome Statute that created the court. Neither are the US, China, India and several dozen other countries.

Story of the Khan’s Partisan Action against Putin

The arrest warrant against Putin was issued a few days after a meeting between Magistrate Khan and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in the Lviv region confirmed by the new photo (cover) traced by Gospa News International on the official website of the Ukrainian Head of State.

That summit, which was also attended by the general prosecutors of other EU states, followed a previous visit by the same prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to Kiev on 28 February.

The two meetings took place even though the International Court in The Hague has opened a file on the atrocities committed by the Ukrainian National Guard in Donbass since 2014, especially for the massacres perpetrated by the neo-Nazi paramilitaries of the Azov Battalion.

ICC also ignored the persecutions conducted by Kiev regime against the priests of the Ukraine Orthodox Church devoted to the Moscow Patriarchate and the brutal killing of a member of Ukrainian delegation for Peace talks done by SBU Security Service controlled directly by the presidente Volodymyr Zelensky.

Risky travels for the Magistrate in Moscow’s Allied Countries

With this arrest warrant issued by Moscow, the British lawyer Khan who leads the ICC risks ending up immediately in handcuffs in Russia or in any of his allied countries that deem the arrest warrant to be well founded. Just like Putin, he runs the same danger in EU countries and in others that adhere to the International Criminal Court (123 countries in total).

Therefore, every trip to the countries of the BRICS geopolitical and financial alliance (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, among which only Brazil is a member of the ICC) could be a gamble, but also, for example, in Belarus, Kazakhstan , Syria, Iran, Libya, Cuba, Venezuela, Serbia (although these two nations have ratified membership in the International Criminal Court).

But perhaps it would even run risks in two NATO countries such as Turkey (non-member of the ICC) and Hungary, which have already rejected the request for Putin’s arrest issued by Khan himself, contesting with multiple actions and agreements with Moscow both the lack of diplomacy of the ‘Atlantic Alliance for a truce in Ukraine, both the sanctions arranged by the US and the EU.
