I was among the first in the world to break the news of the shooting against former President Donald Trump last Saturday and to follow in the following hours (at night in Italy from where I publish) the rapid developments until the ascertainment of a sensational and gigantic failure of the most elementary public security precautions of a presidential election candidate who receives more or less truthful threats almost every day.
A week later we still find ourselves without a credible official version that explains why a young man with almost no experience in arms and none in military operations turned into a dangerous sniper.

Fox News reported on Saturday – one full week after a would-be assassin shot President Donald Trump on stage in Butler, Pennsylvania – that a local sniper team DID fire off a shot during the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
In a critical development, it was revealed that not only did a Secret Service sniper take a successful “one in a million” shot to neutralize Crooks, but a local police sniper also attempted to intervene but unfortunately missed.
“A source familiar with the investigation tells me that, look, it took a single shot to kill the would-be assassin, Thomas Crooks. And that shot came from a secret service counter-sniper that the source says he described the shot as a one in a million type of shot. The counter-sniper could only see the top of the scope, his eye and forehead, because the lip of the AGR building that Crooks was on was obscuring that view. We’re also told a local police sniper took a single shot as well, but missed,” Fox News reporter Bryan Llenas reported.
The building from where the shots were fired was about 150 yards away from where the former President was standing on that stage and had a clear line of sight to him.
Federal law enforcement sources tell Fox that while Crooks snuck up on that roof, a Butler Township emergency services unit, sniper team, was looking out of the windows of that same building, watching for any suspicious activity.
As to how Crooks got onto the roof, it was initially thought he brought a ladder. However, no ladder was found on site, and we’re now told the more likely scenario is that Crooks hid his father’s AR-15 near an AC unit, and then he climbed onto that AC unit to get up onto the roof of the AGR building.
During the attack, it was initially unclear how many shooters were involved as the situation unfolded.
According to a CBS report, “A U.S. Secret Service sniper stationed in a building behind the former president fired one round, killing the gunman, according to multiple law enforcement officials. Two federal law enforcement officers told CBS News the Secret Service team that ultimately killed the shooter was located on a building behind Trump’s left shoulder — with a view that was not blocked by the tree, the CBS analysis shows. That team was initially directed to go another way, so the snipers had to reorient themselves before taking down the gunman, CBS News’ Charlie de Mar reported.”
Most of the security personnel working at the Donald Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, during which the Republican presidential candidate was shot, weren’t even Secret Service, US Senator Josh Hawley has claimed, citing whistleblowers.
Shots fired from the roof of a nearby factory nicked Trump’s ear, killed one audience member, and injured two more before the sniper was taken out by law enforcement.
“Whistleblowers tell me that MOST of Trump’s security detail working the event last Saturday were not even Secret Service,” Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, said on Friday, accusing the Department of Homeland Security of assigning “unprepared and inexperienced personnel” to the campaign rally.
In a public letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Hawley said whistleblowers with “direct knowledge of the event” told him that the majority of the security detail “were not in fact USSS agents but instead drawn from the department’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).”

According to the whistleblowers, the security did not use dogs to monitor the area, allowed people without proper badges to access the backstage, did not have people stationed around the perimeter or deployed around the podium, among other things.
Hawley is a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and notified Mayorkas that he will fully protect these whistleblowers, while continuing to investigate the “staggering security failures on July 13.” He demanded answers on the whistleblowers’ claims from Mayorkas within seven days.
The building from which Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire had been the base for local law enforcement helping with security. It remains a mystery how he managed to get onto the roof undetected by the authorities, and stay there despite civilians repeatedly warning the police and the Secret Service for almost 20 minutes before he fired.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has tried to explain the absence of Secret Service personnel on that particular roof by claiming it was too sloped and posed a safety risk. Unconvinced, the House Oversight Committee has issued a subpoena to compel her to testify before Congress under oath.
Trump turned his head to the right at the very last moment, so the bullet intended for his head missed. After security swarmed the former president, he got up, raised a fist, and told his followers to “fight.” Republicans confirmed him as their presidential nominee at this week’s national convention in Milwaukee.
A Texas investment firm, Austin Private Wealth LLC, is facing scrutiny after a major error in a report they filed just before an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. On July 15, the day before Trump was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the firm made a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that showed they had placed a massive bet against 12 million shares of Trump Media & Technology Group. This looked like a gamble that Trump’s company’s stock would crash if something bad happened to him.
The day after the filing, someone noticed the error and took screenshots, but the information quickly vanished. Suspicion grew because Austin Private Wealth had connections with big investment firms like Vanguard and BlackRock, which some linked to powerful figures like George Soros and the Rothschild family.
Adding to the intrigue, the shooter had once appeared in an ad for BlackRock, which pulled the ad and condemned the shooting. The investment firm claimed the massive share bet was a mistake caused by a third-party vendor, which misreported their position as 12 million shares instead of the actual 1,200.
The firm apologized and said they were reviewing their processes to prevent future errors. Meanwhile, Trump’s stock price, which initially seemed poised to drop, actually surged dramatically after the shooting, rising from $31.25 to $46.17 per share before stabilizing around $37. The mix-up and its timing have left many puzzled and stirred up a storm of speculation.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has revealed that he received threats after exposing an assassination attempt against Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico. He recently claimed that the same group he calls the “Global War Party” was also behind assassination attempt on Trump.
