Kiev’s losses: situation in Kursk Region
The Ukrainian armed forces’ losses in the Kursk Region over the past day amounted to 270 military personnel and 16 armored vehicles, including two tanks, while 18 servicemen have surrendered, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
According to the agency, the enemy has lost upwards of 2,300 military personnel since fighting began in the Kursk Region.
According to Major General Apti Alaudinov, deputy head of the Main Military and Political Department of the Russian Armed Forces and commander of the Akhmat special forces, Russia has stabilized the situation in the region. The blockade of the Ukrainian forces that have entered the country is now being finalized.

Putin says Kiev regime attacks civilians, sees no point in talks
Ukraine’s armed provocation on the Russian border aims to bolster Kiev’s position in future talks, but talks with a government that attacks civilians make no sense, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, according to TASS Russian News Agency. He made the statement when opening a meeting about the situation on the Russian border.
“It is now clear why the Kiev regime refused our proposals to return to the plan for peaceful settlement,” Putin said. “The enemy, with the help of its Western masters – it is doing their bidding, and the West is waging war against us using Ukrainians – <…> seeks to improve its negotiating position in the future.”
“But what kind of negotiations can we even talk about with people who indiscriminately strike civilians, civilian infrastructure or try to create threats to nuclear power facilities,” the president went on to say. “What can we even talk about with them?”
In Russia’s Kursk Region, Ukraine suffers losses and captured soldier gives testimony
Ukrainian forces lost up to 260 people and 31 armored vehicles in the Kursk area over the past day, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to the ministry, the enemy lost up to 1,610 troops over the entire period of hostilities. In other news, the Russian Federal Security Service, also known as the FSB, said that a serviceman of the Ukrainian 80th separate airborne assault brigade was detained in the Belovsky District of the Kursk Region.
Below are the highlights that TASS has put together about the situation.
- The battlegroup North and the deployed reserves repelled seven attacks by assault groups from the Ukrainian 80th and 82nd airborne assault brigades in the areas of the settlements of Martynovka, Borki and Korenevo in the Kursk Region over the past day.
- In the Kauchuk area, Ukrainian mobile groups riding armored vehicles were stopped as they attempted a breakthrough into Russian territory.
- Fire damage was inflicted on clusters of enemy troops and equipment in the areas of Kurilovka, Plekhovo, Lyubimovka, Sudzha, Kositsa, Gogolevka, Kazachaya Lokna, Mikhailovka and Sverdlyakovka.
- Russian aircraft hit Ukrainian reserves in the areas of Miropolye, Mogritsa and Drobnovshchina in the Sumy Region.
- Over the past day, the enemy lost up to 260 servicemen and 31 armored vehicles, including three tanks, eight infantry fighting vehicles, 20 armored fighting vehicles, as well as 27 motor vehicles and three 122 mm D-30 howitzers in the Kursk area.
- Ukraine lost a total of up to 1,610 servicemen, 32 tanks, 23 armored personnel carriers, 17 infantry fighting vehicles, 136 armored fighting vehicles, 47 motor vehicles, four anti-aircraft missile systems, a multiple launch rocket system and 13 field artillery guns during the fighting.

The FSB said that a serviceman of the Ukrainian 80th separate airborne assault brigade was detained in the Belovsky District of the Kursk Region.
- During an interrogation he said they were ordered, if the local population put up resistance, to shoot them all dead. According to the soldier, Ukrainian servicemen engaged in looting when they entered populated areas in the Kursk Region.

- Twelve people were killed and 121 wounded, including 10 children, in a Ukrainian attack on Russia’s borderline Kursk Region, acting regional Governor Alexey Smirnov told Russian President Vladimir Putin via video link during a meeting on the situation on the Russian border.

Russian units have prevented attempts by Ukrainian mobile armed groups to penetrate deep into Russian territory in the Kursk Region, the Russian Defense Ministry said. According to it, units from Battlegroup North and reserves have been thwarting Ukrainian attempts to break through with army aviation and artillery near Ivashkovskoye, Malaya Loknya and Olgovka in the Kursk Region.
Russia’s Battlegroup North has delivered a strike on mercenaries from the “Foreign Legion” in the Volchansk and Liptsy area, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. According to the military agency, the enemy lost up to 95 troops, four pickup trucks, two howitzers and a self-propelled artillery system.

Russian aviation strikes Ukrainian reserves in Sumy Region
Russian aviation and missile troops delivered a strike on Ukrainian reserves in the Sumy Region, the Russian Defense Ministry said. According to it, the strike was delivered on Ukrainian personnel and hardware near Nikolayevo-Daryino, Guevo, Lyubimovka, Zeleny Shlyakh and Sverdlikovo in the Sumy Region.
Ukrainian losses in Kursk Region surpass 1,100 troops, 20 tanks
The total losses of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk area have amounted up to 1,120 troops and 140 units of armored hardware, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Su-30SM, Su-35S fighters deliver bomb strike on Ukrainian units in Russia’s Kursk Region
The crews of Su-30SM and Su-35S fighter jets delivered a strike on Ukrainian personnel and hardware in Russia’s borderline Kursk Region overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Belarusian air defense systems eliminated several aerial targets flying in from Ukraine over the country’s south on August 9, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
“Overnight and today, since early morning, the search has been on for what was eliminated. We suspect that these were strike drones. Having violated Belarusian airspace, they were flying from Ukraine,” the BelTA news agency quoted Lukashenko as saying.
Russian air defense takes down 16 HIMARS rockets, 153 Ukrainian drones over day
Russian air defense systems have shot down 16 US-made HIMARS rockets over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to the military agency, the air defenses also took down two French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, four US-made Patriot missiles, as well as 153 unmanned aerial vehicles, including 97 drones outside of the special operation zone.
Overall, since the beginning of the special military operation, 637 aircraft, 278 helicopters, 29,660 drones, 563 anti-aircraft weapons systems, 17,011 tanks and other armored vehicles, 1,399 multiple launch rocket system vehicles, 13,090 field artillery guns and mortars as well as 24,591 units of specialized automotive equipment have been eliminated, the military agency said.

Abstract of Main News on Ukranian Attack on Kursk Region
Russian forces continue to inflict heavy losses on Ukrainian troops that crossed the border into Kursk Region earlier this week, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Friday, providing an estimate of Kiev’s casualties in the incursion.
According to the ministry, Ukraine has lost up to 945 soldiers as well as 102 armored vehicles, including 12 tanks and 17 armored personnel carriers. The figures include more than 280 troops and 27 armored vehicles destroyed over the past 24 hours in areas bordering Kursk Region, Moscow added.
The Russian military said on Wednesday that the advance of the invading force had been halted but that Ukrainians remained in some areas in the district. “The situation in the Kursk region was classified as a federal emergency,” an Emergencies Ministry statement said on Friday.
The town of Sudzha in the Kursk Region is not under the control of Ukrainian forces contrary to rumors in a number of Telegram channels, the town’s mayor Vitaly Slashchev has told TASS. “Evacuation is underway. Sudzha is ours. This comment says it all,” Slashchev said when asked about the authenticity of photos of Ukrainian soldiers allegedly in front of a store and an organization in Sudzha.
The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that it was building up forces, who were engaged in active hostilities against Ukrainian formations in the Sudzha district of the Kursk Region, by sending tanks and other heavy tracked military equipment there.
“The columns marching to the areas of the tasks include the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher systems, towed artillery guns, tanks transported on trawls, heavy tracked vehicles, Ural and KamAZ vehicles,” the ministry said in a statement.
Putin: “A Large-scale provocation”. Dangers at the Nuclear Plant
Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the attack as a “large-scale provocation,” and has accused Kiev of conducting “indiscriminate strikes” on civilians, residential buildings, and ambulances. Multiple videos circulating online in the past two days appear to show Ukrainian troops firing on civilian cars.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has called for “maximum restraint” amid the situation in Russia’s borderline Kursk Region, where the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is located, to avoid a nuclear accident.
“On August 8, fragments and remnants – presumably, pieces of intercepted rockets – were discovered at the plant, including in the radioactive waste processing area. So far, there’s been no direct shelling of the town of Kurchatov, NPP or energy infrastructure facilities. However, the situation remains tense,” the Russia’s Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna said on its Telegram channel.
The Ukrainian army’s attack on the Kursk Region has called into question not only the peace resolution of the conflict, but also the future development of Ukraine itself, Wang Wen, the Executive Dean of the Chongyang Institute of Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, has told TASS.
“This offensive is an extremely dangerous and aggressive military operation by Ukraine. It can never result in Ukraine’s positive development. It is also not conducive to a peace resolution of the current Russia-Ukraine conflict. It is more likely that it will lead to a more acute confrontation at a time when the situation was expected to ease,” the expert said.
In his opinion, such dangerous actions by Ukraine may also be related to the expected termination of assistance from the United States in case Donald Trump wins the presidential election. To prevent the United States from stopping military aid, Ukraine will further escalate the tensions in the runup to the US election and even hopes to draw the United States into the conflict, thus achieving its aim of joining NATO and protecting national interests,” Wang believes.
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zakharova: “A NeoNazi Barbaric Attack”
The Kiev regime is attacking the Kursk Region in a bid to show a semblance of activity amid constant failures of its forces in the area of the conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
“With their barbaric attack in the Kursk Region, Ukrainian Banderites tried to sow panic among residents of the region and demonstrate at least some semblance of activity amid constant failures of the Ukrainian forces in the conflict area. Obviously, expectations by neo-Nazis failed to come true there as well,” she said.
She said that overnight into August 6, Ukrainian fighters struck the town of Sudzha in the Kursk Region, and from August 6-7, “Ukrainian neo-Nazis carried out a massive terrorist attack on the Kursk Region, engaging significant infantry forces and heavy armored vehicles.” The Russian armed forces, according to Zakharova, “gave a decisive pushback to the enemy, who suffered significant losses.”
Military group named after Nazi battalion involved in Kursk incursion
one of Kiev’s battalions involved in the cross-border attack on Russia’s Kursk Region shares its name with a Nazi special operations unit that was active in Eastern Europe during World War II, Ukrainian news website Focus has reported. The Nachtigall Battalion was under the command of the German military intelligence service, the Abwehr, between 1941 and 1945. It was mainly comprised of members of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-B) and was commanded by right-wing icon, Roman Shukhevych, who is still revered as a hero in Kiev.
Together with the Roland Battalion, it formed the so-called Ukrainian Legion, which participated in the invasion of the Soviet Union by Adolf Hitler’s forces. Some historians believe that members of the Nachtigall Battalion took part in the pogroms in Lviv in June and July 1941, which resulted in the deaths of up to 20,000 Jews. In the fall of 1941, the Ukrainian Legion was reorganized into the Schutzmannschaft Battalion 201, which had been used by the Nazis to fight partisans in Belarus and carry out a genocide against the local Jewish population.
Focus reported on Thursday that a Ukrainian military unit also called the Nachtigall Battalion had taken a group of Russian troops prisoner at the Sudzha border crossing between Russia and Ukraine. The formation is part of the 14th separate air force regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to the outlet.
Five Killed, Dozens Injured by 75 Ukrainian Drones
At least five residents of the Kursk Region have been killed as a result of Ukrainian artillery bombardments and UAV strikes. According to the latest data, more than 60 people, including nine children, were injured; 55 of the injured are in hospitals; 12 of them are in serious condition.
A total of 75 Ukrainian drones were destroyed overnight over Russian territory, most of them in the Belgorod and Lipetsk regions, according to the Defence Ministry. A state of emergency was declared in the region as efforts continue to clean up the aftermath of the attack in the Lipetsk municipality. According to the latest reports, nine people were injured in the drone attack. A power infrastructure facility was damaged. The aftermath has been cleared, with electricity being supplied from reserve generators. A fire occurred at a military airfield in the Lipetsk Region, the Main Department of the Emergencies Ministry for the region said on its website
Ukraine’s attacks have caused numerous civilian casualties. The deadliest incident of the kind to date occurred in late December 2023, when a Ukrainian attack claimed the lives of 25 people and left more than 100 wounded in the city of Belgorod.
Moscow have repeatedly accused Kiev of using Western-supplied arms to “indiscriminately” fire at civilians. Moscow has repeatedly warned that the delivery of weapons and other military aid to Kiev makes Western countries de facto direct participants to the conflict.
Contradictions Among US Officials Over Kiev Operation
Ukraine did not notify Washington of its plans to attack Russia’s borderline Kursk Region, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters at a briefing.
Asked if the US had “visibility from the Ukrainians before they went into Russia,” he answered in the negative. “But it’s not unusual for the Ukrainians not to notify us of their exact tactics before they execute them. It’s the war that they’re conducting. We provide them with equipment, we provide them with advice, but when it comes to the kind of day-by-day tactics that they carry out, the day-by-day strikes that they take, sometimes we’re in communication about them, sometimes we’re not, and it’s appropriate for them to make those decisions,” Miller noted.
The statements coming from the US Department of Defense are of a totally opposite nature.
Use of US-provided weapons for strikes inside the Russian Kursk Region is in line with US policy, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters.
“It is consistent with our policy,” she said to a question on the subject. According to the spokeswoman, the US views the Ukrainian offensive on the Kursk Region as an operation to defend themselves from cross-border attacks. That makes it compliant with the US policy, she said.
Singh however reiterated that the US doesn’t support long-range attacks into Russia. “I’m not going to put a specific range on it,” she said. According to the spokeswoman, the Ukrainians are “aware of the US policy and what we are supportive of.” He added that the US was in contact with Kiev in order to figure out the Ukrainian army’s intentions regarding its operation.
19 Russian Strikes on Ukrainian Military Depots with FAB-3000 BOMB Too
Russian troops delivered 19 strikes by precision weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at Ukrainian military-industrial and energy sites, air defense systems and arms depots over the past week in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Friday.
“On August 3-9, 2024, the Russian Armed Forces delivered 19 combined strikes by high-precision weapons and attack unmanned aerial vehicles, hitting Ukrainian military-industrial enterprises and associated energy facilities, aerodrome infrastructure, air defense systems, assembly workshops and storage sites of attack UAVs. In addition, the strikes targeted fuel bases, armament and ammunition depots, areas of massed Ukrainian army reserves, temporary deployment sites of nationalist formations and foreign mercenaries,” the ministry said in a statement.

“A Su-34 multi-role supersonic fighter-bomber of the Aerospace Forces struck a concentration of Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel and military equipment at a temporary deployment site in one of the districts of the Sumy region, bordering the Kursk region,” the ministry stated.
The strike was carried out using a FAB-3000 bomb equipped with a universal planning and correction module.
Russia announces counterterrorism measures in Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions
The Russian National Antiterrorism Committee is imposing counterterrorism measures in the Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod regions to ensure the safety of people and stop terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime.
“The Kiev regime made an unprecedented attempt to destabilize the situation in a number of regions of our country. The terrorist attack on the territory of the Kursk region by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine resulted in casualties among the civilian population and the destruction of homes and other civilian facilities. In order to ensure the safety of citizens and stop the threat of terrorist acts that could be carried out by the enemy’s sabotage and reconnaissance formations, the National Antiterrorism Committee Chairman and Russian Federal Security Service Director, Alexander Bortnikov, decided to conduct counterterrorism operations in the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions starting from August 9, 2024,” the committee said in a statement.
