Epstein Legal Team Pursued Records hinting at CIA, NSA links. Maxwell refuses to Testify before U.S . Congress (VIDEOS)
Recently unsealed documents from the US Department of Justice (DOJ) have revealed that attorneys representing convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein filed requests to American intelligence agencies, including the CIA and NSA, seeking any information that might reflect an affiliation between Epstein and the agencies.
The Washington Post (WP) reported on Monday that the disclosures are part of an ongoing legal requirement to release federal investigative files related to Epstein, who died in mysterious circumstances in 2019 while in custody awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The latest batch of documents sheds further light on Epstein’s efforts to build relationships with global elites, including political leaders, diplomats, scientists, financiers, and entrepreneurs, even after his conviction on state-level prostitution charges and his designation as a registered sex offender.
One letter, dated July 29, 2011, from the CIA’s information and privacy coordinator (name redacted) to Epstein’s attorney Martin Weinberg, confirmed that the agency searched for any responsive records covering the years 1999 to 2011. The CIA stated it found no open or acknowledged affiliation between Epstein and the agency. However, regarding the possibility of a classified connection, the CIA invoked its standard response: it could “neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of records,” citing national security protections.
Similarly, in a 2014 letter, the NSA denied an appeal filed by Epstein’s lawyer, Darren K. Indyke, under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The NSA also stated that acknowledging whether any such records exist would risk exposing intelligence sources, methods, and operations, potentially harming national security.
According to the documents, Indyke’s request had sought information spanning 14 years and included communications, memoranda, and surveillance records related to Epstein.
Epstein-Israeli ties
In a similar context, an undercover FBI informant “became convinced” that Epstein was an Israeli spy, a document that is among millions of pages released last week by the Justice Department, revealed on Saturday.
The government record cites the informant, known as a confidential human source (CHS), as saying that Epstein’s attorney, Alan Dershowitz, told then-US Attorney of the Southern District of Florida Alex Ocasta “that Epstein belonged to both US and allied intelligence services.”
“CHS shared phone calls between Dershowitz and Epstein during which he/she took notes. After these calls, Mossad would then call Dershowitz to debrief.Epstein was close to the former Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Barak, and trained as a spy under him,” the document says.
Noting that Barak “believed Netanyahu was a criminal,” it said the informant “became convinced that Epstein was a co-opted Mossad Agent” amid regional rivalries involving “Israel”.
The document has an annotation to “see previous reporting,” but what that refers to is unclear.
The DOJ files also highlighted Epstein’s network of Russian expatriate tech investors, some of whom had been under US intelligence scrutiny.
The documents further disclosed that Epstein had meetings and exchanged messages with William J. Burns, who is now serving as CIA Director under former US President Joe Biden. At the time, Burns was a US diplomat preparing to leave the government service.
