“IRAN’s MISSILES CAN TARGET EU and even U.S. CITIES” Teheran Lawmaker explains a Possible Attack from the Sea. With Submarines and Abu Mahdi Missiles

Lawmaker says Iran’s missiles can target US cities and Europe
Iran’s missiles are capable of striking into the heart of Europe and could eventually target US cities from the sea, an Iranian lawmaker said on August.
Iran doesin’t hold an ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile): a long-range ballistic missile (over 5,500 km), designed primarily to carry nuclear warheads. Characterized by a suborbital trajectory, these land-based missiles are a key component of the nuclear triad, ensuring rapid response and strategic deterrence thanks to their ability to strike intercontinental targets.
But its allies Russian and China, which recently sent warships in Gulf of Oman following increased threats from US President Donald Trump and the deployment of two US aircraft carriers despite talks for an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, they possess several types of them and, in the event of a serious escalation of war in the Persian Gulf, they might even consider supplying them to Tehran.

It must be remembered that Moscow and Tehran have formed a strategic alliance not only in the commercial and nuclear fields but also in the military sphere for mutual protection and cooperation.

“Perhaps our next missile will hit Washington directly. We can target America from the sea. The Aerospace Force of the IRGC has been working for 20 years on making it possible to strike America from Iranian ships. Even if we have not yet reached this technology, it remains within our grasp,” Amir Hayat-Moqaddam, a member of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told Didban Iran, according to Iran International newspaper (link in the sources)

While the United States is 10,000 kilometers away, Iranian ships could approach within 1,000 kilometers and launch missiles at Washington, New York and other cities, he added.
Indeed the missile Corvette Shahid Soleimani class, the principal surface combatant ship of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy of Iran can carry and launch at least 6 surface-to-surface missiles as Abu-Mahdi (an dmany other of short range), an Iranian naval cruise missile with a reported range of over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles). Unveiled in August 2020, this long-range missile tripled the previous range capability of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) naval cruise missiles.
Iran’s Abu Mahdi long-range anti-ship cruise missile is a turbojet-powered, sea-skimming weapon designed to evade ship defenses through dual-mode guidance and threaten U.S. naval forces across the Arabian Sea as part of Tehran’s layered maritime denial strategy.
Its complete name is “Shahid (Martyr) Abu-Mahdi al-Muhandis missile” is an Iranian naval cruise missile. The missile is named after Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, an Iraqi companion of Qasem Soleimani who was killed in an American airstrike in 2020. It was unveiled on 20 August 2020 simultaneously with the Haj-Qasem missile. The Abu Mahdi missile can be launched by diverse types of platforms, including sea, land and air launchers.

Iranian Navy has carried out a successful test of the Abu Mahdi stealth missile even for Submarines
During the Strait of Hormuz Naval Drills the Iranian Navy has reportedly carried out a successful test of the stealth Abu Mahdi missile, a highly advanced weapon system designed to be launched from underwater platforms.
«According to reports, the missile is engineered to evade detection, remaining invisible to radar systems, which significantly enhances its survivability and strike capability. Described as a masterpiece of Iran’s naval defense technology, the Abu Mahdi missile is said to be capable of carrying a warhead with a range of up to 2,600 kilometers, posing a serious strategic challenge in the region» Welcome Doha Qatar has reported on FB.

Iran also claims a submarine-launched variant with an extended range of up to 2,600 km,
«Iran operates one of the largest, most diverse submarine fleets in the Middle East, with an estimated 28-30 vessels designed for coastal defense, minelaying, and asymmetric warfare in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and Caspian Sea. The fleet features 3 Russian-built Kilo-class, numerous Ghadir-class midget submarines, and domestically produced Fateh-class semi-heavy submarines» the website of American think-tank NTI (Nuclear Threat Initiative) has reported.
Fateh (meaning “conqueror”) is an Iranian designed class of semi-heavy submarines. The Iranian media reported that Fateh class subs can operate more than 200 meters (660 ft) below the sea surface for nearly five weeks.

In early 2023, two Iranian naval vessels, the IRIS Makran and the IRIS Dena, were reported to be heading toward the Panama Canal after crossing the Atlantic, but they ultimately did not transit the waterway. In 2021, Iranian naval vessels Makran and Sahand completed a mission to the Atlantic Ocean, reaching Venezuela.
“Even now, all European countries are in our range. With our existing missiles we can strike France, Germany, the UK, and all of Western and Eastern Europe.” The threats come as France, the UK and Germany look set to reimpose UN sanctions through the snapback mechanism.
However, Hayat-Moqaddam downplayed the impact, saying that Iran has already endured seven years of sanctions since US President Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA nuclear deal in 2018.
“All possible sanctions have already been imposed on our country. The unilateral and multilateral sanctions by the US and Europe are already at their peak. So activating the snapback mechanism will bring no new negative consequences for Iran’s economy and is merely a political move,” he said.
IRGC announced that Iran has deployed its newest Khorramshahr-4 long-range ballistic missile
Two weeks ago the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that Iran has deployed its newest Khorramshahr-4 long-range ballistic missile, also known as “Kheibar.”
The missile was unveiled on February,6, 2026 during a ceremony at a recently inaugurated underground facility belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Force. The Khorramshahr-4 has an estimated range of approximately 2,000 kilometers and is capable of carrying a warhead weighing approximately 1,500 kilograms, with an accuracy deemed “very high.” But can be launched only by land.
The same sources state that the missile is powered by an Arvand engine that uses self-igniting fuel, reducing launch preparation time and allowing it to be deployed from mobile platforms in less than 15 minutes, compared to a much longer time for ballistic missiles seen in Iran’s possession so far.

The speed of deployment, if confirmed, solves what was a real Achilles heel of the Iranian missile program: the slow deployment and launch of ballistic missiles such as the Shahab-3, Ghadr, or the hypersonic Fattah made them particularly vulnerable, especially during reloading.
The Kheibar missile can reach speeds of up to Mach 16 outside the atmosphere and about Mach 8 inside it, meaning it can reach its targets in just a few minutes.
This is only another of powerful missiles amogn which there is also the new Soleimani Haj Qassem rocket, likely used to strike Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities during the Israel and Iran’s ‘12-day war’.
