At least 26 deaths have been confirmed by authorities following the violence that erupted in Mexico following the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes “El Mencho,” the leader of the Jalisco cartel.
Civilian victims include a woman in her third month of pregnancy and 17 law enforcement officers: fifteen members of the National Guard, a prosecutor’s office agent, and a prison guard. Eight criminals have also been reported dead. Law enforcement has also arrested 27 people: eleven for incidents of violence and 14 for looting businesses and banks.
The news of “Mencho’s” death immediately sparked a reaction from cartel militants, who ravaged the state of Jalisco and neighboring regions. They set up wild roadblocks with torched vehicles, a tactic known as narcobloqueos, used by criminals to hinder military movements.
Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro declared a state of emergency and urged residents to remain indoors as security forces sought to contain the violence.

Several U.S. and Canadian airlines have canceled dozens of flights to Mexico following clashes between drug traffickers and the military.

The gravity of the situation has reached beyond national borders. The U.S. and Canadian embassies have issued urgent security alerts for their citizens in Mexico. The U.S. delegation has urged citizens to remain indoors in the states of Jalisco, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Guerrero, and Nuevo León, areas considered extremely high-risk due to escalating conflicts between law enforcement and criminal groups. Guatemala has strengthened its border with Mexico.

The Powerful Armaments of the Cartel of Fentanyl Drug (VIDEO)
With the death of its founder, the Jalisco Cartel has lost its historic leader. The organization is held responsible for trafficking huge quantities of fentanyl and other synthetic drugs to the United States, a business that has made “El Mencho” one of the most influential and ruthless criminals of the last decade.
Mexico has deployed 10,000 soldiers to protect the population following the wave of violence triggered by the death of its most powerful drug lord in a military operation that left nearly 75 dead. The soldiers were deployed primarily in Jalisco, the western Mexican state where security forces captured “El Mencho.”
Roadblocks organized by drug gangs have been dismantled, the Mexican president announced.
“All roads are clear today, there are no problems, traffic is now allowed. In any case, the Command Center remains in place today, but the roads are clear. Some flights have been suspended as a precaution by the airlines themselves, particularly to Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco),” Mexican president Claudia Scheinbaum concluded.

The Mexican Department of Defense has officially confirmed the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho,” the supreme leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The cartel was designated a foreign terrorist organization by Washington last year. Oseguera was the most-wanted person in Mexico and among the most sought-after suspects in the US, with rewards of up to $15 million offered for information leading to his capture.
The Special Forces raid began in Tapalpa, Jalisco, about two hours from Guadalajara. During the operation, soldiers came under heavy enemy fire. The firefight killed four people on the spot, while three others—including Oseguera Cervantes himself—were seriously injured.
According to the official statement, the kingpin died from injuries sustained during air transport to Mexico City. The operation also resulted in two arrests and the seizure of a veritable arsenal of weapons, including armored vehicles and rocket launchers. Three members of the armed forces were also injured and are currently receiving medical treatment.
During operations conducted by security forces in Mexico to counter the violence unleashed by drug traffickers following the death of “El Mencho,” the CJNG’s deputy leader, Hugo “H,” alias “El Tuli,” considered his right-hand man and trusted man as well as the organization’s accountant, was also killed.
Defense Minister Ricardo Trevilla revealed the news, specifying that he was intercepted in El Grullo, in the state of Jalisco, while coordinating the violence unfolding in several states. At the time of his capture, Trevilla added, El Tuli was found in possession of approximately one million dollars in cash.
