This is why the appeals launched by Iran’s diplomatic representatives to the UN seem rather futile. They ask for two simple things that should be considered sacrosanct under international law:
- the right to a legitimate armed response to an attack on a sovereign state, contested by those EU statesmen who instead want sanctions against Iran;
- an international investigation into the deaths of 165 girls in the school bombed by Israel in Minab and into the attacks by war criminal Netanyahu’s army on nine Iranian hospitals.
A tribute to the schoolgirls murdered by the Israeli-US Bombing
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called for a prompt investigation into the airstrike that hit a girls’ primary school in Minab, southern Iran, on Saturday, February 28, the first day of joint Israeli-US attacks on Iran. Spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani made the announcement in Geneva on March 3.
Türk said he was “deeply shocked” by the impact the war in the Middle East (LIVEBLOG) is having on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Iranian lawmaker Fatemeh Mohammad Beigi stated that at least nine hospitals nationwide have suffered severe damage. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei accused the U.S. and Israel of indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools and Red Crescent facilities.
The World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed deep concern, reminding that medical facilities are protected under international humanitarian law.

The ICRC official who visited the site was in fact the head of its delegation in Iran, Vincent Cassard, who said that attacks affecting humanitarian centres were prohibited under international law.

Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday that the two countries “continue to indiscriminately strike residential areas, sparing neither hospitals, schools, Red Crescent facilities, nor cultural monuments”.
“These actions constitute the deliberate commission of the most heinous crimes of international concern. Indifference to this ongoing and extreme injustice will only further darken the future of humanity by jeopardising the shared values upon which our global community stands,” he wrote in a post on social media.
Red Crescent: “ICRC must adopt immediate measures to stop similar incidents
Pir Hossein Kolivand, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, wrote a letter publicised late on Sunday to the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), demanding an explicit condemnation of attacks impacting children and educational and medical centres.
He also said monitoring and support mechanisms outlined in the Geneva Conventions must be invoked, adding that the ICRC must “adopt immediate measures” to stop similar incidents from taking place again as the war rages.
“The Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a member of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, declares its full commitment to the fundamentals of humanity, impartiality and independence, emphasising that damaged centres had no military applications,”Kolivand wrote.
ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric said in a statement at the start of the war on Saturday that rules of war must be upheld as an obligation, not a choice.
“Civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, homes and schools must be spared from attack. Medical personnel and first responders must be allowed to carry out their work safely,” she said.

According to data published by the Guardian in an analysis based on verified footage and images from the site, the attack occurred during school hours, when a missile hit the school, killing dozens of girls between the ages of 7 and 12 and wounding many others.
The photographs and videos analyzed allegedly show the devastation following the bombing, with children’s bodies partially buried under the rubble of the school building. The Guardian specifies that it chose not to publish the images out of respect for the victims.
