According to Rodriguez, as many as 16,740 people were injured and 17,907 were left homeless. A total of 190 buildings were completely ruined and 856 sustained significant damage. During search and rescue operations, as many as 6,462 people were saved, and 27,398 received treatment in hospitals and medical facilities. Assistance was provided to 86,794 families, and 9,603 tons of food were distributed to those affected.

Firefighters Recover More Bodies as Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises
Firefighters continued recovery operations at the Residencias Las Aves building in the Playa Grande sector of Catia La Mar, La Guaira state, following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24.
According to official figures, the earthquakes have left 2,954 people dead, 16,592 injured, 6,462 rescued, and 16,309 people displaced after losing their homes.
Rescue crews recovered at least three more bodies from the rubble before transferring them to the La Guaira mortuary for identification by relatives. Emergency responders continue working under extremely difficult conditions as they search collapsed buildings for additional victims.

‘Miracle’: Trapped man rescued eight days after Venezuela earthquakes
Rescue workers were able to reach 43-year-old security guard Hernan Gil on Thursday, after days of trying to retrieve him from a collapsed seven-storey building where he worked in the hard-hit coastal area of Catia La Mar.
A doctor treating Venezuelan earthquake survivor Hernán Alberto Gil described his rescue as “a miracle” after he was pulled alive from the rubble eight days after the devastating La Guaira earthquake.
Gil was transported by ambulance to a clinic in Caracas, where doctors said he arrived conscious, stable, and cooperative despite spending more than a week trapped beneath collapsed debris.
Medical staff credited rescue workers for keeping him hydrated, fed, and encouraged throughout the ordeal, calling their efforts critical to his survival. Doctors remain optimistic about his recovery as further medical tests are carried out.

Two powerful earthquakes, two catastrophic seismic ruptures of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 shook northern Venezuela just 39 seconds and 5 km apart, where the Caribbean tectonic plate moves eastward relative to the South American plate along several faults, one of them the Boconó fault, which had been accumulating tension since its rupture in the 7.1 earthquake of 1812.
Today, Wednesday, July 1st, one week and 782 aftershocks later, amidst national mourning, the figures speak to the magnitude of the disaster and the scale of the response:

More than 38,000 still missing after a week
The number of people still missing and possibly trapped under the rubble remains dramatic.
Of the more than 81,000 reports received by the online platform Desaperecido Terremoto Venezuela, 54,408 individual cases have been confirmed, but of these, a week after the tragedy, only 15,616 have been located, while 38,972 remain missing.
This number is unfortunately destined to increase the death toll, as announced by a rescue worker in an interview (see video below).

According to the last official report, the number of deaths amounted to 1,450, while the number of wounded people stands at 3,150, of whom 527 have had to be transferred to hospitals or clinics in Caracas.

For the first time the number of missing persons is decreasing
Finally, some positive news in the midst of a terrible tragedy… In addition to the rescue of children trapped under the rubble after more than 40 hours (see details in the updates below), the numbers also seem to offer a glimmer of hope.
For the first time since the Desaparecido Terremoto Venezuela platform was launched, the number of missing persons is decreasing.
From over 54,000 in the previous survey, the number has dropped to under 50,000, partly because the service managers have intelligently begun screening to distinguish generic reports and identify the single report of a single, seemingly desperate person.
To understand the seriousness of the alarm, in fact, one should not give weight to the reports of over 79 thousand missing people, but compare them with the number of those located alive and deduct from them the double reports as the platform is doing from today

Unfortunately, as stated by a rescue services official (video below), the death toll is obviously destined to rise dramatically, given that over 47,000 people are still officially missing…
But it is really comforting that the UNIQUE missing persons have dropped from 49,816 to 47,177 because it means that 2,639 Venezuelans have been located alive.

This marks the second rescue of a minor that day in La Guaira state—the area worst affected by Wednesday’s twin earthquakes.

Death toll from the tragedy has risen to 1,430, with 3,238 injured
The president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, provided details this Saturday on the effects of the devastating earthquakes of June 25 and the rescue and relief efforts in the affected communities. He reported that the death toll from the tragedy has risen to 1,430, with 3,238 injured.
430 aftershocks have been recorded since the earthquakes.
Rodríguez explained that 3,142 families have been left homeless and are being cared for in shelters, and that a total of 73,736 families have received assistance. He added that more than 5,000 people have received medical attention at health centers.
Regarding international aid, he reported that 2,242 rescuers from various countries are deployed on the ground, complementing the work of more than 30,000 Venezuelans from diverse specialties.
A total of 2,697 people have registered as volunteers at the Poliedro de Caracas, which allows for the organized reinforcement of rescue efforts during critical hours for finding survivors under the rubble.
Residents have reported shortages of heavy equipment as emergency crews race against time to locate those still trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
Venezuelan Bishops Call for National Day of Prayer for Earthquake Victims
The bishops of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) officially called for a National Day of Prayer this Sunday, June 28, in memory of the victims of the recent earthquakes.
In an official statement, the high-ranking church officials expressed their profound sorrow for the tragedy and offered prayers for the eternal rest of the deceased and the swift recovery of the injured.
The local Catholic Church thus expressed its solidarity with the residents of the most affected areas in Caracas, La Guaira, Puerto Cabello, Morón, and Tucacas, where uncertainty remains strong. The religious institution urged each diocese, parish, and Christian community to actively organize this spiritual initiative to provide spiritual support to all the families who are suffering.

The updates coming from Venezuela are increasingly disturbing. As the hours pass, more than two days after the June 25 earthquake, the number of missing persons continues to rise dramatically instead of decreasing…
The latest report on the reports recorded by the Desaparecidos Terremoto Venezuela platform reports 66,438 missing persons reported and 12,134 locations of living persons.
The difference is therefore tragic: 54,304 Venezuelans are still missing 48 hours after the earthquake, including 35 Italians who held dual citizenship. Three have already been declared deceased.

Earthquake in Venezuela: Death toll updated to 920
According to Rodriguez in a televised statement, the death toll has been updated to 920, while the number of injured has risen to 3,360. A total of 172 people are believed to be alive and still under the rubble.
Regarding structures and infrastructure, according to authorities, 383 buildings and homes have been destroyed or severely damaged, in addition to 13 hospitals, 25 shopping centers, and over 1,000 infrastructure facilities. Rodriguez also added that so far (1:00 PM local time – 5:00 PM GMT), 302 aftershocks from the main shock have been recorded.
The President of the Assembly also announced that shelters have been set up for the homeless and appealed to residents not to travel from Caracas to the Guaira area to deliver aid, so as not to obstruct transportation routes and the movement of emergency vehicles.

589 confirmed dead, latest death toll expected to rise due to 51,681 missing
The provisional death toll from the earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 589, announced President Delcy Rodriguez.
But the death toll is expected to rise dramatically; some experts have speculated it could reach or even exceed the tragic figure of 40,000 victims.
To date, 60,925 people have been reported missing on Desaparesidos Terremoto Venezuela platform, and only 9,244 of them have been located. This means that for nearly 48 hours, there has been no news of at least 51,681 people, many of whom may have already suffocated under the rubble.
INGV, Venezuela: “Further high-magnitude tremors likely”
Further high-magnitude tremors could occur in Venezuela in the coming days, following the two magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors that struck on the night of June 24-25. Salvatore Stramondo, director of the Earthquake Department at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, told ANSA.
“We cannot predict with certainty what will happen,” the expert emphasized, “but our probabilistic models tell us that further tremors of at least magnitude 6.0 are very likely.”
UN: 6.8 million people affected by the earthquake
Approximately 6.8 million people have been affected by the earthquakes that struck Caracas. Zoe Brennan of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations migration agency, stated this to reporters, explaining that approximately 6.76 million people could be affected in the country, based on the latest population and damage estimates.
Initial assessments based on satellite maps indicated that 31.5% of buildings in Catia La Mar, a coastal city northwest of Caracas, had suffered damage, Brennan said.

The number of missing persons reported on the Bolivarian government’s dedicated platform has risen to 57,722, but only 7,939 of them have been located.
This means that more than 24 hours after the double earthquake, 49,783 people are still missing, and therefore fears are growing that the death toll will significantly exceed the current count of 235.

The latest update on the number of missing people following the June 25 earthquake in Venezuela begins to contain a small positive note within the otherwise tragic numbers.
At 5:00 a.m. on June 26, 2026 (European Time +2 GMT), the number of Desaparecidos began to decline for the first time.
The total number of missing people reported rose overnight to 58,334, but 21,623 of these were located by government monitoring. Therefore, those still missing are 37,071, approximately 6,000 fewer than last night’s update at 11:00 p.m.
The death toll has unfortunately increased: there are currently 235 deaths, with approximately 4,300 injured, including dozens seriously injured.
La Guaira, more than 100 buildings collapsed
More than 100 buildings collapsed in the coastal state of La Guaira, near Caracas, following Wednesday’s devastating earthquakes, which measured magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, respectively. Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello reported.

The number of missing is growing: 42,648 Desaparecidos, but 4,596 located. 188 dead.
As of 11:00 PM on June 25, 2026, the most tragic day in Venezuela’s history, the earthquake death toll is still far from a true figure.
So far, 188 people have been identified as dead and over 1,500 injured during the terrible double earthquake, with an intensity greater than 1/2 (the first 7.2 and the second devastating 7.5).
But in this disaster, the number of missing continues to grow. The latest update on the Venezuela Earthquake Desaparecidos platform shows 47,244 missing persons reported, which fortunately has been reduced to 42,648. Thanks to the impressive work of the Bolivarian government’s Civil Defense Department, 4,596 have since been located and are believed to be alive.
These numbers, as horrifying as the image of entire buildings and neighborhoods destroyed, bring to mind the 39,905 deaths in the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 5 and 6, 2023.

Two powerful 7.2 – 7.5 magnitude quakes in Venezuela
Numerous casualties and large-scale destruction are possible after a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Venezuela. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the US National Geological Survey.
According to an initial reconstruction, the Latin American country was hit by two terrible tremors within a few seconds of each other.
The earth continued to shake dramatically. About 40 seconds later, the USGS recorded a second, even more violent tremor, of magnitude 7.5, which hit the same area in the center of the country, worsening an already critical situation.
Strong tremors were felt in the capital, Caracas. According to preliminary data, dozens of buildings were damaged, including residential high-rise buildings. There were fragments of walls and building structures on the streets. There are reports of deaths and injuries, and there are children among the victims.
“This is the strongest earthquake I’ve ever felt in Venezuela,” said Associated Press correspondent Juan Arraes.
According to updated data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was located in the municipality of Montalbán, in the state of Carabobo, at a very shallow depth of 13.2 kilometers, making the earthquake particularly destructive and felt across much of the region.
In the first images, a building collapses, with people believed to be inside. As can be seen from other images, many were at home watching the Brazil-Scotland match.
So far, two children are reported dead, but several others are injured under the rubble.
Three little siblings pulled alive from the rubble of La Guaira in Venezuela
Three siblings, trapped under the rubble of their home, have been rescued in the city of La Guaira, about twenty kilometers from Caracas, according to local media.
A video shared on social media shows Mario Ruiz, a neighbor who participated in the rescue effort, filming the moment a child and his two sisters emerge in the middle of the night from the rubble of their collapsed building.

A large number of people were caught in the earthquake at Caracas International Airport (video 2). After the tremors began, panic began in the terminal, passengers and staff hurriedly left the building.
In the Los Palos Grandes neighborhood, within the Caracas metropolitan area, at least two buildings collapsed along Primera Avenida; no official death toll or injuries have yet been released.
Rescuers, medics and other emergency services are working on the ground. The mayor of Baruta, Darwin Gonzalez, reports on an operation to rescue people from the rubble of collapsed buildings.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the incident would require a response at both the national and international levels.
Major Earthquakes Within Minutes of Each on Different Parts of Globe: Venezuela, Japan and California
Two major earthquakes have hit two different sides of the world within minutes of each other, with damage as yet unknown. Another one, of lower intensity, happened in Norhern California.
According to The New York Times, the bigger of the two quakes hit Venezuela Wednesday evening, with the epicenter of the 7.1-magnitude event occurring 17 miles from the town of Montalbán at 6:04 p.m. Venezuela time.
Less than half an hour later, in another hemisphere, a 6.9-magnitude quake hit off the coast of Japan, with Earthquake Track reporting the epicenter was at east northeast of Kuji.
It struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan on Thursday morning. Tremors were felt in nearby areas, including Aomori.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the earthquake occurred at 7:30 a.m. JST on June 25 off the coast of Iwate Prefecture. The quake had a depth of approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles). The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) also measured the earthquake at magnitude 6.9.
Tremors were felt across several areas in northern Japan, including Aomori Prefecture, while residents in cities such as Sendai and Morioka reported noticeable shaking that lasted for a couple of minutes. The quake was also felt mildly in Tokyo, according to local reports.
Also on Wednesday, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook Northern California in the morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake was centered 7 miles north of Redwood Valley in Mendocino County, north of Ukiah, and east of Highway 101. It had a depth of 5.0 miles.
Five earthquakes in the Pacific Ring of Fire in less than 24 hours: Venezuela, Japan and US
Earth has shown intense seismic activity in the past few hours.
While the Pacific Ring of Fire has recorded at least five moderate-to-strong magnitude earthquakes at various points along its vast tectonic belt, an unusual double earthquake of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 occurred in Venezuela, just 39 seconds apart, causing hundreds of deaths and extensive damage.
Both events occurred almost simultaneously.
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake also occurred in Japan around the same time, without apparent damage. A few hours earlier, another earthquake occurred in California, USA.
The Pacific Ring of Fire is home to approximately 90% of the world’s seismic activity, while the Venezuelan earthquake occurred at the boundary between the Caribbean and South American plates, a different tectonic zone.
