The right-wing National Rally (RN) party is set to win the first round of the French snap parliamentary elections held on Sunday, exit polls show. The result is a stunning defeat for President Emmanuel Macron and his centrist Together (Ensemble) coalition
Macron called for an early vote following the poor performance of his Renaissance Party during the European Parliament election last month, when RN led by Jordan Bardella won the most seats allotted to France.
Meanwhile Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced the creation of a new EU Parliament alliance, in cooperation with right-wing parties from Austria and the Czech Republic.
If the new parliamentary group in Brussels will represent a thorn in the side for Ursula Von der Leyen, who awaits reconfirmation from the assembly of deputies after having received the mandate from the European Council for reconfirmation as President of the European Commission, it is not yet clear what it will be the political line of the French far right.
In fact, there is a precedent in Italy where the right-wing government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (leader of Fratelli d’Italia – Brothers of Italy) won but in compliance with the wishes of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella (former deputy of the Democratic Party) supported all the positions of the EU Commission led by Von Der Leyen in the current armed conflicts both in Ukraine against Russia and in Palestine, legitimizing the Zionist Israeli regime’ right to carry out a genocide in Gaza which cost the EU president a complaint in Geneva.
Furthermore, since Meloni’s arrival in government in 2022, Italy has seen a dangerous resurgence of fascist ideals which culminated in open support for the neo-Nazi regime of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his ferocious SS paramilitary nostalgia of the Axov Battalion.

If he becomes prime minister, as the outcome of the vote in France suggests, the very young leader of RN Jordan Bardella (28 years old) will be able to resist the sirens of the Weapons Lobby which instead seduced Meloni, leading her to join the Rockefeller think tanks such as your Defense Minister Guido Crosetto?
France’s presidential coalition to withdraw some 60 candidates in second round
France’s presidential coalition Together for the Republic will withdraw around 60 candidates ahead of the second round of voting in the parliamentary elections in a bid to prevent the victory of the opposition right-wing National Rally Party, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said.
“We have made this choice after the first round of voting in more than 60 constituencies. It means that we will withdraw our candidates because if they stay in the third place, a candidate from the National Rally will defeat the other candidate who, like us, would defend the republic’s values,” he said.

France held the first round of early parliamentary elections on Sunday. The right-wing National Rally is winning 33% of the vote, the left-wing New Popular Front is scoring 28.5%, and the presidential coalition Together For the Republic has 22%.
On June 9, Macron announced his decision to dissolve the National Assembly, or lower house of France’s parliament, and organize early parliamentary elections following the crushing defeat of the presidential Renaissance Party at the elections to the European Parliament, where it (14.6%) was routed by the opposition National Rally Party (31.4%). The last time the lower house was dissolved was in 1997 by President Jacques Chirac.
Hungary’s Orban announces new EU Parliament alliance
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced the creation of a new EU Parliament alliance, in cooperation with right-wing parties from Austria and the Czech Republic. The announcement comes a day before Budapest takes on the rotating six-month EU presidency.
The new group, presented as “Patriots for Europe” comprises Fidesz, the party led by Orban; the Czech Republic’s largest opposition bloc, ANO, chaired by the country’s former prime minister, Andrej Babis; and the Austrian Freedom Party (FPO), headed by Herbert Kickl.
“Today we are creating a political formation that I believe will very quickly become the largest faction of the European right-wing,” Orban said during a press briefing which was also attended by Babis and Kickl. The Hungarian leader expressed hope that the alliance would dominate the right of the EU’s political spectrum.

The results of the election carried out on June 9 revealed that citizens across the 27-nation bloc had mostly shifted away from the left, although the performance of the right-wing and conservative parties varied from country to country. The ruling coalitions in Germany, France and Italy were effectively trounced by the right.
Orban’s Fidesz won 11 seats in the EU parliament, while FPO and ANO have six and seven seats respectively, with all three parties becoming strongest in their countries’ elections.
According to the current rules, 23 members are needed to form a political group in the European Parliament, and at least one-quarter of the member states must be represented within the alliance. In a statement to the media, the leaders of the three parties expressed hope that the new group would be joined by many other European parties in the coming days.
Hungary becomes chair of European Council amid sharp disagreements with EU
Hungary begins its six-month presidency in the European Council amid serious disagreements with the EU management on a number of issues, including in regards to the conflict in Ukraine and migration. On July 1, it will succeed Belgium, and, in late December, it will hand over the presidency to Poland.
The complicated relations between Budapest and Brussels are even reflected in the presidency’s motto: “Let’s make Europe great again!,” which resembles the campaign slogan of US ex-President Donald Trump, who enjoys no support from the EU leadership, but who is being openly supported by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
While announcing the agenda of the Hungarian presidency, Orban said that putting a prompt end to the conflict in Ukraine is its most important point. “We advocate the end of the war,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the conflict in Ukraine still “casts a shadow on all events in the EU.”
Such words contradict that claims made by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who talks not about ending the conflict, but about achievement of victory for Ukraine at any cost.
The expansion of the EU is another important point of the agenda. There are five official membership candidates in the Western Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. Hungary believes that their accession will “provide new energy and a new impetus,” which the EU needs so much today.
Meanwhile, Hungary believes that the expansion process does not tolerate double standards, and politicization must be avoided in this issue. Therefore, Ukraine, which enjoys the support of the EU in regards to the accession process, must meet the same criteria as all other candidates.
