“We understand that expanding the mission can be a risk and we will continue to discuss this with the Israelis. And ultimately, a diplomatic resolution is the only way to achieve lasting stability and security along the Israel-Lebanon border,” he added.

Biden Backs Israel’s Assassination Of Nasrallah, Hailing ‘Justice’ Served

The White House has finally put out a statement by early Saturday afternoon. President Biden has called Nasrallah’s death ‘justice’ for the hundreds of Americans who perished over what the US called a ‘four-decade reign of terror’.
“Hassan Nasrallah and the terrorist group he led, Hezbollah, were responsible for killing hundreds of Americans over a four-decade reign of terror. His death from an Israeli airstrike is a measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis, and Lebanese civilians,” Biden said. The White House says the Pentagon has been ordered to enhance America’s defense posture and readiness in the Middle East.
Biden has further repeated that the US “fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself”…

Politico and some other publications have said the assassination of Nasrallah, apparently without US knowledge (that’s the current official line anyway), has put more distance between Biden and Netanyahu. “Biden administration officials were trying to figure out how to publicly respond Saturday to confirmation that Israel had killed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group,” the publication said.
“The initial reaction from inside the White House was positive, even though U.S. officials had been trying to convince Israel to pause its operations against Hezbollah, according to two senior administration officials,” it added.
Russia Warns Of Bigger War
Russia’s reaction has been the opposite
, with the foreign ministry saying, “This forceful action is fraught with even greater dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East.”
“The Israeli side could not fail to recognize this danger, but took the step of killing Lebanese citizens, which would almost inevitably provoke a new outburst of violence. Thus, it bears full responsibility for the subsequent escalation,” the Russian statement said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – who has been transferred to a secretive and secure location – has declared five days of public mourning for Hassan Nasrallah.
“I … offer my condolences for the martyrdom of the great Nasrallah and his martyred companions and announce five days of public mourning in Islamic Iran,” Khamenei said according to the official IRNA news agency.

Russia calls on Israel to immediately stop hostilities in Lebanon
Russia urges Israel to immediately stop hostilities in Lebanon in order to avoid major consequences for the region and resort to political and diplomatic means of resolving the conflict, Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov told Rossiya-24 television.
“Amid the developments, we call on Israel to immediately stop hostilities and move toward resolving the situation peacefully and politically. Otherwise, consequences will be absolutely serious for every regional player,” the diplomat warned.
Viktorov stressed that Russia condemns the recent killing of Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Shia movement, in what he said was a terrorist attack. The elimination of Nasrallah indicates that the Jewish state is not seeking to end the conflict or put the situation back on the political and diplomatic track, the diplomat said.

Iran won’t leave any of Israel’s crimes unanswered
Tehran will not leave any of Israel’s aggressive actions unanswered, the Iranian authorities are monitoring the situation in the region and are in contact with the Lebanese authorities after the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanani Chafi said.
“Iran is continuing its efforts even after First Vice President [Mohammad Reza Aref] spoke with [Lebanese Prime Minister Najib] Mikati. We are in touch with the Lebanese authorities and are monitoring the situation. Iran will not leave any of the aggressive actions of the Zionist regime (Israel – TASS) unanswered, the regime will not go unpunished for its crimes,” the spokesman said at the press conference broadcast by the SNN TV channel.
According to the diplomat, Iran has repeatedly called on the international community to pay attention to Israel’s attempts to expand the geography of the war in the Middle East. “This does not mean that Iran is afraid of war. We do not want it, we are trying to strengthen security and stability in the region,” Kanani Chafi explained.

Nowhere is safe in Beirut,’ residents say as Israel strikes heart of capital for first time
At least four people were killed in an Israeli air strike on an apartment block near the Cola Bridge in Beirut overnight, marking the first attack on the city centre since the current conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began in October last year.
The Lebanese Health Ministry announced the deaths, adding four others were injured. The strike killed three members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine(PFLP), the group said, as well as a man living on the floor beneath, according to residents.
The Cola area is a busy intersection and serves as a key link between Beirut’s airport road and its downtown. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed pledged $100 million to “the brotherly Lebanese people,” WAM reported on Monday.

The US military base in Conoco, north of Deir Ezzor, Syria, has been reportedly targeted in a heavy drone attack. The US military base was targeted by several suicide drones, Al Jazeera reported, citing the Syrian media.

US-led airstrike kills 18 in Syria’s border city of Abu Kamal
A US-led airstrike has left at least 18 people dead in Syria’s eastern city of Abu Kamal located near the border with Iraq, news reports have said. The strike happened early on Sunday and was conducted by the US-led international coalition which has been in Syria since 2014, Al Jazeera reported.
Hours earlier, the news channel reported that a strike had hit the headquarters of the Iraqi resistance group Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (meaning: The Master of Martyrs Battalions) on the Syrian side of the border.
The group was targeted following a drone attack on a US military base near Conoco gas field in Syria’s Deir uz-Zor province.
Iraqi resistance groups have in the past months carried out drone attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for Washington’s support of the Israeli regime’s war on Gaza.
The US has maintained its military presence in Iraq and Syria under a so-called international coalition Washington formed in 2014 to fight the Daesh terror group.

Australia police pepper-spray 13 y/o during Lebanon-Palestine protest
New South Wales police seemingly pepper-sprayed a 13-year-old child and two others as officers attempted to pull away and remove a Hezbollah flag off a protester during a Palestine-Lebanon demonstration in Sydney, The Guardianreported, citing legal observers.
According to legal observers on the scene, police officers allegedly “indiscriminately” used pepper spray against demonstrators after one protester refused to give up the flag.
The Australian federal police then noted that displaying a Hezbollah flag does not lay a basis for arrest, saying, “The mere public display of a prohibited symbol on its own does not meet the threshold of a commonwealth offense.”
