Iranian Ministry of Culture: Italian Journalist Arrested for Violating Laws

IRNA (Ismaic Republic Nazional Agency) has reported.
The ministry aims to increase the presence of foreign media in the country and protect their legal rights, a policy that is being actively pursued by the current government, the statement noted.
It underlined that an Italian citizen, Cecilia Sala, traveled to Iran on a journalist’s visa on December 13, 2024, but was arrested on December 19, 2024, on charges of violating the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The statement noted that her case is currently under investigation, adding that her arrest was conducted in accordance with relevant regulations. The Italian embassy in Tehran has been informed, and during this time, she has been granted consular access and is in contact with her family by phone, it further noted.
The Alleged Retaliation vs US Justice
The website of the Italian National TV, shamefully controlled by the Meloni Government on every geopolitical issue to the point of openly supporting the jihadist terrorists rapists of girls who have come to power in Syria, continues to talk about a retaliation in response to the arrest of an Iranian citizen carried out by Italy on the orders of the US Justice (read details in the last paragraph).

Sala repeatedly argued that Italy should not have taken action for their legal defense. Today many are asking the Italian Government to do the same towards her. The Italian Journalist arrested in Iran

By order of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the Italian embassy and consulate in Tehran have been following the case with the utmost attention since its beginning. In coordination with the Presidency of the Council, the Farnesina has worked with the Iranian authorities to clarify the legal situation of Cecilia Sala and to verify the conditions of her detention”. This was communicated by the Farnesina.
Defense Minister Guido Crosetto wrote on social media: “the entire Government, first and foremost President Giorgia Meloni and Minister Tajani, has moved to have her freed. Every person who could and can be useful to achieve this goal has started to work”, he added.
According to Crosetto, “unfortunately, negotiations with Iran cannot be resolved with the involvement of Western public opinion and with the strength of popular indignation, but only with high-level political and diplomatic action. Italy is working tirelessly to free her, pursuing every avenue”.
Neither of the two ministries recalls that Cecilia Sala is working for a media outlet co-owned by a financial speculator on US funds.
It is embarrassing that a reporter who should go to a foreign country to provide objective information is connected to such economic constraints.
This would have made it easy for any young journalist to make a career by reporting mainstream narratives against countries targeted by the US such as Iran and Ukraine…

Iranian Arrested in Milan for Conspiracy with Pasdaran
“All eyes are on the case of Mohammad Abedini Najafabadi, the Iranian who passed strategic information to the Pasdaran, which at this point is closely linked to that of the Italian journalist locked up in Evin prison since December 19, casting the shadow of retaliation on what happened to the reporter” writes Italian TV RAI News
Abedini was stopped on December 16 by personnel from the Anti-Terrorism Section of the Digos of Milan and personnel from the Border Police Office on duty at Malpensa airport,
with the coordination of the Central Directorate of the Police for the Countering of External Extremism and Terrorism and Interpol. The Police carried out a personal search and a search of the suspect’s luggage, seizing electronic components, bank and commercial documents and three devices including cell phones and PCs.
From what has been learned, Abedini is accused of conspiracy to have exported electronic components from the United States to Iran in violation of US laws on export control and international sanctions weighing on Iran. In recent days he was transferred from the prison of Rossano Calabro to the one in Milan in Opera. Tehran immediately expressed indignation and rejected all accusations.
The United States has formalized the extradition request. Now the word passes to the Court of Appeal of Milan which will have to evaluate, based on the documentation received from the American authorities, whether or not there are the conditions to accept the extradition request. The final decision, after the green light from the Court of Appeal, is exclusively up to the Ministry of Justice which has 10 days to make the extradition effective.
