Death toll from Iran’s southern port blast rises to 46 as over 1,000 injured

The death toll from a massive explosion that ripped through Shahid Rajaee Port in the Iran’s southwestern city of Bandar Abbas has exceeded 40, while more than 1,000 people have sustained injuries.
Director general of the crisis management organization at Hormozgan province, Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, announced on Monday that the catastrophic blast has claimed the lives of 46 individuals so far.
Out of those injured, a total of 1,072 people have been discharged, while 138 remain hospitalized, he added.
Following the previews reportage of Gospa News, even the supreme religious leader of Tehran is beginning to hypothesize an external attack as the cause of the huge explosion in the port in southern Iran.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has released a message on the tragic explosion and fire at Shahid Rajaee Port and asked the officials to discover any case of negligence or deliberate actions.blast has claimed the lives of 46 individuals so far.
Following the tragic fire at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, Ayatollah Khamenei issued a message on Sunday evening.
In his message, the Leader extended condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in the incident.He further praised citizens who stepped forward to donate blood for the injured.
«Moreover, the Leader asked the security and judicial officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident to identify any negligence or deliberate actions behind it» IRNA agency has reported.
On Saturday, a powerful blast rocked the port of Shahid Rajaee in Hormozgan Province after a fuel tanker exploded for reasons still under investigation.
At least 40 people were killed and over 1,000 others wounded in the immense explosion that rocked the container port, which is located in Bandar Abbas and handles 80 million tons of goods a year.
The Iranian government declared Monday a day of national mourning after the tragic incident.
No military cargoes stored at site of blast: Defense Ministry
Iran’s Defense Ministry spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik, on Sunday, rejected reports that a military cargo was present at the site of the massive explosion, Presst TV has reported.
«According to investigations, there was no import or export cargo for fuel or military purposes at the site of the fire incident, he said. He added that media speculations suggesting otherwise were part of a psychological warfare by the enemy» Iranian governative TV added.

He emphasized that the exact cause of the blast would be announced.
The blast happened just after the third round of talks between Tehran and Washington on settling the crisis around Iran’s nuclear program. The meeting held in Oman on political and expert levels, has concluded, the Iranian state TV and radio broadcasting company said.
President Goes to Explosion Site in Iran’s Southern Port
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian left Tehran for Bandar Abbas on Sunday to visit the location of a massive blast that has claimed dozens of lives at Shahid Rajaei Port.
The Iranian president has traveled to the coastal province of Hormozgan to get the latest information in person about the rescue and relief efforts at Shahid Rajaei Port following the huge blast.
The president had already called for a probe into the incident and dispatched Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to the disaster site.
Putin expresses condolences to Iranian leadership over explosion at Shahid Rajaee port
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian over the aftermath of the explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port.
“Please accept my deepest condolences over the loss of life and the massive destruction caused by the explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port. Please convey my sincere sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured,” the telegram published on the Kremlin website reads.
The President also expressed Russia’s readiness to assist in eliminating the aftermath of the tragedy.
